Full-grain, oil-tanned leather is some of the most sought after and beautiful leather available. Bags made with this soft, pliable and extremely durable leather have many pros over their department store counterparts; here are 5 of them in no particular order:

  1. Maintenance. Oil-tanned leathers are infused with natural oils after the initial vegetable-tanning process. The mixture of the natural waxes of the hide and the oils combine to create a patina that requires hardly any moisturizing over time, which leads us to our next point.
  2. Self-Healing. One of the most remarkable qualities of oil-tanned leather is its ability to self-heal and moisturize when scuffed or scratched. If the scuff is light and insignificant, a simple lick of the thumb and rubbing of the leather should get it right out. If your bag suffers some wear-and-tear over time then just apply some mild heat to the area, rub it in a little bit and you should be good to go!
  3. Weather-proof. Sort of like Rain-X on your windshield wiper, the natural oils of the leather have an amazing ability to to resist the water’s deteriorating effects over time. This leather is practically indestructible!
  4. Texture. One of the main reasons we use full-grain, oil-tanned leather is its amazing texture and feel. The leather has a wonderfully smooth and soft finish, while being pliable and sturdy enough to shape into gorgeous leather bags.
  5. Beauty. The most important reason we love oil-tanned leather is its stunning beauty. This great leather will not only last a life time, but over its course it will develop new tones of color and a patina as unique as the person wearing it.
